Measurement of intermediate purity products by spark emission spectrometry (SES)

• Analysis of elements present in samples of solid metal.
• The sample is submitted to an electric arc ; its atoms reach an excited state. When the atom comes back to its stable state, it emits a ray specific to the element. A part of the signal is selected through a slit.An optical device separates each optical signal which is then transformed into an electrical signal. This signal is analyzed by a computer and expressed as a concentration of the element.
• This method is not an “absolute” method and needs frequent calibratioun trough the use of guaranteed reference samples.
