Cubic Texture
Cubic texture is a particular crystallographic orientation which is necessary for high voltage etching. If not enough grains have cubic texture, the pits created during high voltage etching are not perpendicular to the foil, resulting in a too little surface increase. Pechiney discovered and patented in the 70’s a revolutionary manufacturing process enabling to obtain very high levels of cubic texture on high purity foils. This process has now been adopted by all anode foil producers around the world and is still in use at PHP/ Froges. After a chemical treatment of the foil, cubic texture is now measured via image analysis on each high voltage foil shipped.
Values are given to customers on request.
They are typically over 95 % and frequently reach levels higher than 99% !

Analytical Expertise
Pechiney High Purity continues to pursue its policy of investing in the most efficient analytical technologies with regards to both metallic impurities and to non-metallic elements.
The MERCUS plant has its own laboratory, which has been specially designed by Pechiney High Purity for continuous control of its purification process and to guarantee the consistently exact purity expected by clients.
Pechiney High Purity further offers its laboratory services to clients. Sorting low alpha emitter materials by Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) Measurement of intermediate purity products by Spark emission analysis (SEE) Measurement of alloying elements by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry Characterization of alloying elements content using Inductively Coupled Plasma analysis (ICP) Controling the gas content using a measurement on solid by vaccum extraction (Stroehlein )
Internal defects inspection (standard and high frequency) (Ultrasonic inspection )
